Privacy Policy — Metar&TAF3D

Kalynda Teknoloji Havacilik ve Turizm Ltd. Sti. ("we", "our", "us") develops and publishes Metar&TAF3D, an Android aviation application that decodes METAR/TAF reports and visualises weather conditions as a 3D cloud profile, runway diagram, and weather radar. This Privacy Policy describes how the app handles information.

Short version: Your data stays yours. We do not collect your name, e-mail, or phone number. Anonymous usage analytics help us improve the app — you can switch them off any time in Settings → Privacy.

1. Information Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers:

  • Application preferences (theme, units, language)
  • Your favourite ICAO airports
  • Personal notes, drawings, and PIREP drafts
  • Pilot profile fields (encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM via Android Keystore)
  • METAR/TAF query history and last-seen forecasts
  • Subscription state (cached locally — Google Play is the source of truth)

2. Anonymous Usage Analytics

To improve the app, we collect anonymous usage analytics on our own servers in the EU (Frankfurt). This collection is:

  • Anonymous. A random install identifier (UUID v4) is generated on your device. We do not collect your name, e-mail, phone number, advertising ID, or any other personally identifying information.
  • Approximate location only. If you grant the location permission (used to detect your nearest airport), we send your approximate location rounded to a ~1 km grid. We never collect or transmit precise GPS coordinates.
  • Usage events. Which ICAO airports you queried, which tabs you used and for how long, which features were tapped, paywall interactions, theme preferences, crashes, and network errors — all without any personal identifier.
  • Device metadata. Device model, manufacturer, OS version, app version, system language, country (derived from IP at request time, IP itself is not stored).
  • Opt-out. Disable analytics any time in Settings → Privacy → Anonymous Statistics. When disabled, no events are sent and the local queue is cleared.
  • Replay protection. Each payload is HMAC-signed with a short timestamp window so requests cannot be replayed.
  • Retention. Raw events are pruned after 12 months. Aggregated statistics are kept for 24 months.
  • No third-party sharing. Analytics data is stored on infrastructure operated by Kalynda Tech. We do not sell or share this data with third parties.

3. Location Permission

If you grant the coarse location permission, the app uses it to suggest the nearest airport when you open it. The location itself stays on your device; only an approximate (~1 km / city level) value is sent to our analytics servers, and only when analytics is enabled. Precise GPS coordinates are never collected.

4. Subscription Data

Metar&TAF3D offers an optional annual Premium subscription with a 7-day free trial. Payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card numbers, or billing details. The app caches a yes/no subscription state locally so that paid features remain available offline.

5. Third-Party Services

  • Google Play Billing — for trial and subscription management
  • Google AdMob— for advertisements shown in the free tier. AdMob uses an Advertising ID per Google's policies.
  • NOAA Aviation Weather Center (US Government) — for METAR/TAF data. Public, no user data is sent.
  • OpenStreetMap (OSMDroid) — for weather map tiles. Public, no user data is sent.
  • Kalynda Apps Analytics — operated by us (see Section 2).

These services have their own privacy policies, which apply when you interact with them through Metar&TAF3D.

6. Data Security

All in-transit data uses HTTPS/TLS. Pilot profile fields stored on the device are encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a master key generated and held in the Android Keystore. Analytics requests are HMAC-SHA256 signed to prevent tampering. Sensitive SharedPreferences (analytics queue, subscription cache, pilot profile, PIREPs) are excluded from cloud backup and device transfer to prevent state spoofing.

7. Children's Privacy

Metar&TAF3D is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

8. Your Rights

  • Disable location and analytics any time in Settings
  • Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data
  • Cancel your subscription any time through Google Play
  • Request data deletion or ask any privacy question by writing to the address below

Metar&TAF3D is provided for informational and educational purposes only. It does not replace official flight briefings, NOTAMs, or certified aviation information sources. Always make flight decisions based on official, authoritative sources. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of the data shown.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Significant changes will be announced in-app.
